Dr. Suthat Koonnawarote

Dr. Suthat Koonnawarote (Thai: นพ.สุทัศน์ คุณวโรตม์) works as a plastic surgeon at Yanhee International Hospital, the private hospital in the Bang Phlat area of Bangkok, and most of what official pages record about him concerns the bones of the face. Three Yanhee services name him: the Cosmetic Services centre (ศูนย์ศัลยกรรมตกแต่ง); the revision unit that sees patients unhappy with cosmetic surgery carried out by other providers; and the male-to-female (MTF) team of the Yanhee Pride Center, where his entry reads 'Plastic Surgeon | Expert in Facial Feminization'. We looked for other current practice profiles in both English and Thai and found none on an official site, so Yanhee is the only place of practice given here.

The common thread in his documented work is the bony structure of the face. His Thai-language Yanhee profile lists male-to-female facial restructuring, jaw-angle reduction, cheekbone reduction (malarplasty), V-shape chin reduction with a T-shaped osteotomy, chin repositioning and lengthening, forehead augmentation, brow-bossing reduction, forehead reduction and hairline advancement. On Yanhee's English site he is the only surgeon named under 'Available doctors' on the mandibular angle reduction, cheek implant and cheekbone reduction pages, and he is one of the surgeons listed on the buttock augmentation page. His training record points the same way: after plastic surgery training at Ramathibodi Hospital he completed a craniofacial surgery observership at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei in 2007, and the invited lectures on his Thai profile deal with facial skeletal surgery, malarplasty and gonioplasty.

The procedure areas that official pages document for him are:

• Facial feminization surgery (FFS)
• Forehead contouring and brow bone reduction
• Hairline lowering (forehead reduction with hairline advancement)
• Jaw contouring (jaw-angle reduction)
• V-line surgery (V-shape chin reduction)
• Genioplasty (moving or lengthening the chin bone)
• Cheek augmentation with implants, plus cheekbone reduction (malarplasty)
• Buttock implants

His name, with a Yanhee Hospital address, is on the member list that ThPRS publishes online; ThPRS is the national professional body for this specialty in Thailand. On languages, the English version of his Yanhee profile gives Thai and English. Appointments with him start from our consultation request for Dr. Suthat; from there the request goes to Yanhee through our patient team, and a date counts only after the hospital offers one and we pass it on to you.

This profile draws on Yanhee's English and Thai pages, the ThPRS member entry, the ThSAPS directory of aesthetic plastic surgeons as captured in 2020, and the alumni page of Ramathibodi's plastic surgery division, each reviewed on 27 September 2026. Anything we could not confirm on an official source is omitted rather than guessed, as our research methodology sets out.

Dr. Suthat's education, as his English and Thai Yanhee profiles set it out, runs from general surgery into plastic surgery, followed by short courses in the areas he now practises.

• Medical degree (1990): Chiang Mai University awarded him the Doctor of Medicine (แพทยศาสตรบัณฑิต). The Thai profile dates it B.E. 2533.
• General surgery (1994): specialty training in general surgery at Ratchavithi Hospital (spelled that way on his profile), completed with a Thai surgical diploma (วุฒิบัตร, สาขาศัลยศาสตร์) that the Thai profile dates to B.E. 2537, or 1994. No issuing body is named.
• Plastic surgery (2005): specialty training in plastic surgery at Ramathibodi Hospital, followed by a Thai plastic surgery diploma (สาขาศัลยศาสตร์ตกแต่ง) from B.E. 2548, or 2005; here too the profile leaves the issuing body unnamed. Separately, an alumni page published by the plastic and maxillofacial surgery division of Mahidol University's Ramathibodi medical faculty includes นพ.สุทัศน์ คุณวโรตม์ under B.E. 2545 (2002). Because that page leaves open whether 2002 was his first or final year in the division, we do not turn it into a training period.
• Craniofacial observership (2007): a Craniofacial Surgery Observership at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. The Thai profile describes it as a study visit in facial-bone and jaw surgery.
• Gluteal implant course (2007): a surgery course on gluteal implants, held in Thailand.
• Breast augmentation workshop (2011): a basic and advanced live-surgery workshop on breast augmentation in Singapore. This is part of his training record only; none of the official pages we reviewed lists him as a surgeon for breast augmentation.

About the word 'diploma'. The Thai วุฒิบัตร is a specialist certificate normally granted when residency training is completed, and English-language pages often translate it as board certification. Yanhee describes its plastic surgery team as board-certified. We record Dr. Suthat's two diplomas in the wording his profile uses and do not add an issuing body that the profile does not name.

Invited lectures. His Thai profile lists four teaching appearances, all on facial bone surgery:

• 'Aesthetic Facial Skeletal Surgery', for the Society of Plastic Surgeons of Thailand, 30 November 2017
• facial bone surgery, at the plastic surgery unit of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, 19 October 2017
• malarplasty (cheekbone reduction), at a Thai–Singapore–Taiwan plastic surgery academic meeting, March 2016
• gonioplasty (jaw-angle surgery), at the Society of Plastic Surgeons of Thailand annual meeting, 31 October 2021

We found no PubMed-indexed publications under his name or its spelling variants. That says nothing either way about clinical skill; it only means there is no published case series of his to read.

His English profile describes a career in three stages:

• General surgeon, 1994–2003. The profile does not name the employer.
• Plastic surgeon at Pyathai Hospital, 2005–2007. This is the profile's spelling, and it does not say which branch.
• Plastic surgeon at Yanhee International Hospital, since 2007. His current post, in the hospital's Cosmetic Services centre.

Inside Yanhee, official pages give him three further roles:

• Pride Center, MTF team. The Pride Center is Yanhee's gender-affirming surgery department, serving trans women and trans men alike (MTF and FTM), and it also lists psychiatric consultation, hormone therapy, surgical planning and aftercare among its services. On its MTF team, Dr. Suthat is the surgeon named for the face. Other parts of transition care sit with colleagues, among them Dr. Worapon Ratanalert for MTF genital surgery and, for voice change, Dr. Ornouma Sriwanishvipat, who is an ENT specialist.
• Medical reviewer. He is named as medical reviewer ('Medically reviewed by Dr. Suthat Koonnawarote') on eight of Yanhee's English procedure pages: facial feminization surgery (dated 4 August 2026), and cheek implants, cheekbone reduction, chin advancement, mandibular angle reduction, nose augmentation with rib cartilage, nose implant and nose reshaping (dated July 2026). Reviewing a page is an editorial role. We have not treated it as evidence that he performs each operation, and on the nose and chin advancement pages Yanhee names other surgeons as the available doctors.
• Revision unit. His name also appears in the Thai-language Yanhee directory under the unit for people dissatisfied with cosmetic surgery from another provider. That directory gives no breakdown of which corrective operations each listed surgeon handles.

Clinic days. On 27 September 2026 his English profile showed consultation hours on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 17:00 and on Wednesday from 11:00 to 17:00, with Friday and Saturday off; the Thai profile matched. Clinic timetables get revised, so we recheck his days with Yanhee each time a request comes in.

What we left out. The treatment list on Yanhee's Thai profile attaches hospital-stated case numbers to each item and describes his facial contouring volume in superlative terms. We could not verify those figures, so we do not repeat them. If experience with a particular operation matters to your decision, and for facial bone surgery it reasonably should, ask him directly how often he performs that operation and what his own complication and revision experience has been.

Each area below pairs the official source that links Dr. Suthat to the procedure with general points worth raising when you consult him. The general guidance comes from our own procedure guides and describes what usually happens; it is not a prediction of what he will recommend for your face. Only an assessment by Dr. Suthat himself can settle whether any of these operations is right for you, and every one of them carries risks, including bleeding, infection, asymmetry, numbness or nerve weakness, scarring and the possible need for revision.

Facial feminization surgery (FFS). The Yanhee Pride Center lists him on its MTF team for facial feminization, his Thai profile names male-to-female facial restructuring among his treatment areas, and Yanhee's English FFS page carries his name as medical reviewer. In general, FFS is not one operation but a plan assembled from several procedures, such as forehead and brow bone reduction, hairline advancement, nose reshaping, cheek work, jaw-angle reduction, chin reshaping and a tracheal shave for the Adam's apple. Many people have several of these, together or in stages. As general guidance, our FFS guide says that surgeons often request a CT scan to plan bone work, that operating time varies widely with the number of procedures (about 2 to 10 hours), that 1–3 nights in hospital is common, and that overseas patients typically spend 10–14 days in Thailand. It also notes that very long combined operations add anaesthetic risk, which is one reason some surgeons stage the work. For Dr. Suthat, the bone components of FFS (forehead, jaw angle and chin) are exactly the areas his profile documents. The nose and the Adam's apple are different: his profile lists neither rhinoplasty nor tracheal shave, and Yanhee's nose pages name other surgeons as the available doctors. Ask at consultation which surgeon would perform each part of your plan and whether the parts would be done in one session.

Forehead contouring and brow bone reduction. His Thai profile lists brow-bossing reduction, forehead reduction and forehead augmentation. The first two fall under what our guide calls forehead contouring and brow bone reduction, usually part of FFS; forehead augmentation, which adds projection rather than reducing it, has no separate guide on our site. In general, a prominent brow ridge is reduced either by contouring the bone or, when the frontal sinus lies behind a thin wall, by setting the front wall of the sinus back, often through an incision at the hairline. Possible problems particular to this area include numbness of the scalp, hair loss near the incision and sinus problems. Imaging shows how the sinus and the bone over it are shaped, so ask whether he will want a CT scan and whether it should be done before you travel.

Hairline lowering (forehead reduction). His Thai profile lists forehead reduction with hairline advancement (ลดขนาดหน้าผาก เลื่อนไรผม). In general, when the forehead is approached through a hairline incision, the same incision allows the hairline to be brought forward, which is why hairline work is so often combined with brow bone reduction in FFS. Our FFS guide also mentions a hair transplant as an alternative or an addition for reshaping the hairline. Our hairline lowering page is still being written. If your hair is thinning, or you have had a transplant before, mention it early, because it bears on which approach makes sense.

Jaw contouring (jaw-angle reduction). Dr. Suthat is the only surgeon listed under 'Available doctors' on Yanhee's mandibular angle reduction page (reduction angleplasty, also called gonioplasty), jaw-angle reduction (ตัดมุมกราม) is on his Thai treatment list, and in 2021 he lectured on gonioplasty at the Society of Plastic Surgeons of Thailand annual meeting. Reducing the angle of the lower jaw is used both for cosmetic slimming of the lower face and within FFS. In general terms, a trip of 10–14 days in Thailand is typical for this operation according to our jaw contouring page, and our FFS guide describes marked swelling and bruising in the first week after jaw work, advises planning soft foods, and says numbness can take months to settle. Useful questions: how much bone he expects to remove in your case and why, where the incisions will be, and how he protects the nerves that give feeling to the lower lip and chin.

V-line surgery. His Thai profile lists V-shape chin reduction using a T-shaped osteotomy (ตัดคาง V-shape รูปตัว T). In general terms, this means cutting the chin bone so that its width can be narrowed as well as its position changed, and it is often discussed together with jaw-angle reduction when the aim is a tapered lower face. Ask him to show you, on your own photos or scan, what would be cut and moved, and whether he would combine it with jaw-angle work in one operation. Genioplasty (chin repositioning and lengthening). His Thai profile lists moving the chin bone and lengthening it (เลื่อนตำแหน่งกระดูกคางและต่อกระดูกคางให้ยาวขึ้น). This is bony genioplasty, in which the chin itself is cut and repositioned rather than built up with an implant. Chin implants are not on his treatment list, and Yanhee's chin advancement page, which he reviewed, names other surgeons as the available doctors. If you are weighing an implant against moving the bone, ask whether he would perform either option himself. Our FFS guide lists numbness of the lower lip and chin among the possible effects of chin work.

Cheek augmentation and cheekbone reduction. These have opposite aims, and both are documented for him. He is the only surgeon under 'Available doctors' on Yanhee's cheek implant page, which is how we link him to cheek augmentation. He is also the only surgeon listed on Yanhee's cheekbone reduction page, cheekbone reduction (ตัดโหนกแก้ม; malarplasty) is on his Thai treatment list, and he lectured on malarplasty in 2016; our site does not yet have a separate guide to that operation. In general, cheek volume can be added with implants or with fat, and cheek augmentation is one of the options in FFS; malarplasty does the reverse, narrowing a wide or prominent cheekbone. Tell him which change you are hoping for, and bring photos that show your cheeks from the front and at an angle.

Buttock implants. Dr. Suthat is named on Yanhee's buttocks augmentation page as one of the plastic surgeons who, in the page's words, 'perform buttock augmentation', and his training record includes a gluteal implant course in 2007. It is the one body procedure documented for him. Our buttock implants page is still being expanded. Our Brazilian butt lift guide, which covers a different, fat-based operation that is not documented for him, explains that a BBL needs enough donor fat and that a surgeon may discuss implants with very lean patients instead. At a consultation, ask which implant he would use and where it would sit, how long you should avoid sitting or lying on your buttocks, and what follow-up he wants before you fly.

Correcting surgery done elsewhere. Because Yanhee places him in its revision unit without saying which operations he revises, the only way to know whether he can help is to send your history. If you want earlier facial bone work or implants corrected, your previous operation notes, implant details and any scans matter even more than usual; see the list under 'Photos, scans and records' below.

Facial bone surgery is planned from measurements and imaging as much as from the mirror. The questions below are built around the operations documented for Dr. Suthat; take the ones that apply to you.

Planning and imaging

• Will you need a CT scan? Can a scan taken at home be used, or will Yanhee repeat it?
• Which parts of my plan would you perform yourself, and which would another Yanhee surgeon or specialist handle, for example the nose, the Adam's apple or the voice?
• Would you do everything in one operation or in stages, and roughly how long would each operation take?
• How do you decide how much bone to remove at the forehead, jaw angle or chin, and what limits apply in my case?
• If I want both cheek projection and a narrower lower face, how would you balance cheek work against jaw and chin reduction?

For facial feminization

• Do you set your own conditions for FFS, such as a period on hormones or letters of support? Our FFS guide explains that the WPATH Standards of Care, version 8, leave hormone timing for facial surgery open, so the answer depends on each surgeon's own criteria.
• Would the Pride Center's services, such as psychiatric consultation, hormone therapy and post-operative care, be part of my pathway, or is facial surgery handled on its own?
• If I am also planning genital or voice surgery, how should the facial surgery be timed around it?

Recovery and risk

• Where will the incisions be for each part, and will any scars be visible?
• Which nerves are at risk in my operation, what numbness or weakness should I expect, and how long might it last?
• After my operation, how long would I stay in Yanhee as an inpatient, and how soon after surgery would you be willing to clear me to fly home from Bangkok?
• After jaw or chin work, what can I eat, and for how long?
• How are complications handled once I am home, and what happens if I need a revision, including who pays for it?
• Once I am back home, how will you follow my recovery, and how often should I send photos?

Cost

• What exactly is inside the package price? Yanhee says its packages for most cosmetic operations normally cover the operating theatre, the doctor's fee, room and meals, nursing and medicines. For facial bone surgery, ask for the quote in writing, line by line, and check where CT imaging, any extra nights and a possible later revision fall.

It is also reasonable to ask to see results for faces similar to yours, and to ask how frequently he carries out the exact operation you want. A careful surgeon will also tell you when an operation is not a good idea for you.

Yanhee's street address is 454 Charansanitwong Road at Soi 90, postcode 10700, in Bang O, a sub-district of Bangkok's Bang Phlat district (the hospital itself writes 'Bang-O, Bangplad'). Taxi drivers generally work from Thai script, so ask our team for the Thai form of the address before you land. On accreditation, Yanhee Hospital appears under the Hospital Program in the online directory kept by Joint Commission International (JCI), and the certificate image on Yanhee's own site runs through 12 March 2029. By its own count the hospital has 400 beds, and its FFS page refers to an on-site intensive care unit; Dr. Suthat therefore operates inside a full hospital rather than a stand-alone clinic. That does not remove the risks of surgery, but it matters for long facial bone operations under general anaesthesia.

Services Yanhee lists for overseas patients, in roughly the order you would meet them:

• *Before you fly:* you can send your case for Yanhee's free pre-assessment online, and an international coordinator reads it before any travel is booked. For facial bone surgery, this is a good moment to ask whether a CT scan from home will be accepted.
• *Getting there:* for a fee, Yanhee can send a car to collect you from the airport and to shuttle you from hotel to hospital, and some partner hotels offer a lower room rate when your stay is part of a Yanhee package deal.
• *On arrival:* registration takes place at Yanhee's International Counter, first floor, and the interpreter who meets you there stays at your side through each department you visit. Yanhee says interpreting and translation carry no additional charge, and staff who speak English, coordinators among them, are stationed around the building. Dr. Suthat's own profile lists Thai and English.
• *As an inpatient:* the international liaison team makes a daily round of foreign patients on the wards, and if treatment keeps you in Thailand beyond your planned stay, Yanhee can assist with a visa extension.
• *Paying:* Yanhee accepts payment by bank transfer or by card (debit or credit), and cash is taken in the main world currencies.
• *Leaving:* you are discharged with three documents: a medical certificate, a letter clearing you for air travel, and a written summary of your treatment.
• *Afterwards:* Yanhee coordinates follow-up by email, and you send photographs so the doctor can track your healing.

How long to plan for. As general guidance, our FFS, jaw contouring, V-line and forehead contouring guides all suggest budgeting 10–14 days in Thailand, and the FFS guide adds that extensive combined surgery can need longer. The FFS guide places stitch removal and early checks between days 7 and 14, before the flight home, with most swelling fading over several weeks, subtle swelling and numbness taking months, and results continuing to refine for up to a year. Our guides to genioplasty, cheek augmentation, buttock implants and hairline lowering do not yet give a usual trip length, so ask Yanhee for its own estimate for those. Clearance to fly is Dr. Suthat's call once he has checked your healing, which is why a changeable return flight is worth the extra cost.

Practical preparation. Book a hotel with a short journey to Yanhee, since there will be several check-ups in the first days. Clothes that open at the front avoid pulling tops over a swollen or bandaged face. If jaw or chin work is planned, line up soft foods before surgery rather than after. Carry your discharge summary and operation notes in your hand luggage, since your own doctor will want them should any problem appear after you return.

For trans women planning several steps at Yanhee. Because the Pride Center handles psychiatric assessment, hormone therapy, surgical planning and aftercare within one department, facial surgery with Dr. Suthat can be coordinated with the other stages of a wider plan. Yanhee also publishes an Adam's apple shaving page and runs a voice change service. Neither is on Dr. Suthat's documented list, so if you want them alongside FFS, ask our team to confirm which specialists would be involved and how the operations would be sequenced.

Use only two channels for health details and pictures, our request form and our WhatsApp line, and keep the photos back until Dr. Suthat's team asks for them. Gathering everything in advance still helps, because facial bone planning depends on it.

For any request

• Which operation or operations you want to talk about, and the change you are after, described in your own words.
• Your medical conditions, current medicines, allergies, whether you smoke, and anything that went wrong with an anaesthetic in the past.
• Past surgery of any kind, with the year and the part of the body treated, and copies of operation notes for anything done on the face or buttocks.
• The dates you could travel, and whether the first consultation should be by video or face to face in Bangkok.

For facial bone work (FFS, forehead, jaw, chin or cheeks)

• Clear, evenly lit photos without make-up or filters: taken from the front, from the left side, from the right side, from both three-quarter angles, with your hair pulled back from the forehead and hairline.
• Any CT scan or facial X-ray you already have, with the report and the image files if possible.
• Details of fillers, threads, implants or earlier facial surgery, including the date and, if you know it, the product or implant type.
• Anything relevant to your mouth and jaw, such as braces, planned dental work or previous jaw surgery.
• For FFS, your hormone therapy history and any documents the surgeon or the Pride Center asks for.

For hairline lowering

• Photos of the hairline from the front and from above, and a note of any hair loss, family history of thinning or previous hair transplant.

For buttock implants

• Photos from behind and from both sides, your height, your present weight and any recent weight changes, and details of any previous injections, fat grafting or implants in the area.

For correction of surgery done elsewhere

• The clinic, the date and the operation performed, with the operation notes and any implant card; photos from before the first operation if you have them; and a short description of what concerns you now.
